Club Constitution

The youth division of Oxshott Royals is a fully constituted charity. The purpose of the club is “to provide local children the opportunity to play competitive football at a level commensurate with their ability”. This objective is supplemented with a number of codes of conduct and provides a clear framework within which club managers can operate.

  • Oxshott Royals measures its success by the overall enjoyment of everyone involved with the club, whether it is parents, players, or officials. Whilst the objective of a team on the pitch is to win, the overall objective of Oxshott Royals is to provide a framework and infrastructure through which everyone can enjoy playing and watching football.

  • The club is affiliated to the Surrey County Youth football Association

A FAQ is what is the clubs policy towards player rotation in a squad and whether a manager must use substitutes. The following guidelines should be considered:

  • The policy is that the team must come before any individual player;
  • Most managers will play a substitute for at least half a game. By doing so players do not become disillusioned, which benefits the squad over a season. Some managers will not do this, and “play to win”. This is not wrong, the team should come before an individual. However, this MUST be advised to parents/players before they are registered with the club;
  • In some situations (e.g. cup semi final) a manager will often field only the strongest side, in which case the substitutes should be aware of this before the start of the match;
  • The size of most squads means that some rotation is inevitable. As a guideline managers should play each player in at least 75% of matches. If the manager does not expect this to be achieved, then the players should be made aware of this before they are registered;
  • Overall, whilst some managers will adopt different practices, the main issue is that everyone “knows the score” at the start of the season.
